River Beach

Potamos beach is located in the area of Malia, near the archaeological site of the palace, and is flooded with thousands of people every summer. It is a medium-sized beach with blue waters, sand and very well organized.

Lygaria Beach

Lygaria Maleviziou is located in the region of Achlada, 21 km northwest of Heraklion. It is a very beautiful and busy beach with rocks in places, coarse sand and calm blue-green waters. It is very well organized with umbrellas, sunbeds, water sports, diving school, cafes, and taverns.

Matala Beach

Matala is located 68 km southwest of Heraklion, and is certainly one of the most popular tourist destinations in Crete and certainly the most famous beach of southern Heraklion. It is a bay with a wonderful sandy beach and fine gravel, and crystal clear blue-green deep water. On the north side of the beach there is a large natural cave from the top of which many daredevils dive. It is very well organized, with umbrellas, toilets, showers, water sports, etc. 

Stalis Beach

Stalida is located about 30 km east of Heraklion, between Malia and Chersonissos. It is a beach with beautiful blue shallow waters, palm trees and sand along the length. It is well organized and is a good destination for a quiet family holiday. Because of the northern orientation it usually has a wave.

Agia Pelagia Beach 

The beach of Agia Pelagia is located 21 km west of Heraklion. It is a popular tourist destination with many amenities and organization. It has beautiful blue-green waters with sand and normal depth. If you know how to swim, this particular location is ideal as on the same beach there are hidden coves with beautiful waters and silence.
